JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Adidas Stan Smith . -- Short week. Cross-country flight. Early start. Bye week looming. The San Diego Chargers had plenty of reasons to come out flat in Jacksonville. They avoided all of them. It surely helped that they faced what is shaping up as one of the worst teams in NFL history. Philip Rivers threw for 285 yards and a touchdown, Ryan Mathews ran for 110 yards and a score, and the surging Chargers beat the inept Jaguars 24-6 Sunday. "It all starts with the quarterback, and hes one of the best in the business," Chargers coach Mike McCoy said. "Were very fortunate." The Chargers (4-3) played nothing like a tired team or one looking ahead. Then again, the Jaguars have made everyone look good. Jacksonville (0-7) has lost every game this season by double digits, becoming the first team since the 1984 Houston Oilers to garner that dubious distinction. The Oilers lost their first 10 games that year by at least 10 points. "We didnt have any enthusiasm," Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts III said. "Its a bad day. Nobodys going to feel sorry for us. We cant feel sorry for us." Jaguars coach Gus Bradley shouldered the blame for not having his team ready, a feeling he got in pregame warm-ups and in the locker room. Jacksonville was praised for covering a 27-point spread at Denver last week and spent part of this past week preparing for a week-long stay in London. Unlike the Chargers, the Jaguars failed to handle all the distractions. "We talk about getting better and we completely missed an opportunity," Bradley said. "Thats what not getting better looks like. Penalties, missed tackles, missed assignments, spirit, effort. We talk about playing with toughness, playing with effort, playing with enthusiasm and playing smart. Thats our style. I dont think we did any one of those four today." Everyone whos watched Jacksonville play this season knows its a talent-based issue. The Chargers dominated every aspect of the game. Rivers completed his first 14 passes, picking apart Jacksonvilles defence with short throws and clock-eating drives. He finished 22 of 26. Mathews topped the century mark for the second consecutive week. About the only thing that went wrong for San Diego was a failed chance to score just before halftime. Rivers tried to run for the end zone with 7 seconds left on third down, but he was stopped short. That gave Jacksonville some momentum and a sliver of hope heading into the locker room. It was short-lived. The Chargers scored on their first two drives of the second half. Rivers, whose TD pass was a 27-yarder to Eddie Royal, made huge plays on both. "Philip is the wheels on our tank," tight end Antonio Gates said. "As long as he can continue to play the way he plays and the line continues to protect him like that, were going to be just fine." Even more impressive: San Diego overcame the loss of two offensive linemen. Left tackle King Dunlap left in the first quarter with a concussion. Mike Remmers replaced him, but went down four plays later with an injury. The Chargers flopped right tackle D.J. Fluker to the left side, moved right guard Jeromey Clary to right tackle and inserted Rich Ohrnberger in at right guard. And they didnt miss a beat. Mathews 3-yard run with 14:08 remaining sent many of the Jacksonville faithful scrambling for the exits early -- again. The Jaguars have been outscored 89-11 in three home games. "We can say we keep doing good things, but if we dont get a win or get more points on the board, its really not doing good things," Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne said. "Were really disappointed right now as an offence. ... Its tough to swallow." Jacksonville was its own worst enemy. Defensive tackle SenDerrick Marks was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct following a 1-yard run on a second-and-34 play, giving San Diego an automatic first down. The Jaguars also self-destructed with several sacks in the red zone. Henne completed 23 of 36 passes for 318 yards, with an interception. He was sacked six times. Maurice Jones-Drew ran nine times for 37 yards and declined to talk afterward. Shorts had eight receptions for 80 yards, but also dropped two slant passes in the end zone. Justin Blackmon caught six passes for 58 yards. The Jaguars had Jones-Drew, Shorts, Blackmon and tight Marcedes Lewis -- the teams top four playmakers -- in the lineup together for the first time this season. It hardly changed the outcome. San Diego, meanwhile, has consecutive wins for the first time this season. "Were starting to build somewhat of an identity, a little bit of an attitude," Rivers said. Notes: Rivers, whose wife hasnt gone into labour with their seventh child, became the second quarterback in franchise history to throw for 30,000 yards. ... Jaguars C Brad Meester made his 200th career start. ... The Chargers have won both East Coast trips this season. They have two remaining. Adidas Superstar Foundation . The All Blacks ended a 26-19 win in Paris camped on their own line and thankful for second-half tries by Charles Piutau and No. 8 Kieran Read to maintain their unbeaten record in 2013. The Springboks emerged 24-15 winners in Cardiff after making the most of limited possession to score tries through Jean de Villiers, Bismarck du Plessis and Fourie du Preez in a 14th straight victory over the Welsh since 1999. NEW ORLEANS -- David Stern is going from the NBA commissioners office to the Hall of Fame. Nike Air Force 1 Black And White . The recently retired Stern was elected Friday to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and will be enshrined with the class of 2014 on Aug. 8 in Springfield, Mass. Stern was on a ski trip to Colorado on Friday with his wife while the NBA was holding its first All-Star weekend without him in charge since 1983. New Commissioner Adam Silver and many other league employees who worked under Stern attended the press conference. "I wanted to be here for David because I knew he wasnt in New Orleans this weekend. Just to be here to share the experience and then relay it back to him what the feel in the room was," said Silver, who worked under Stern since 1992. "As I said earlier, while David is a modest guy, I know he was moved by the fact this was all happening so quickly, and he has always told me he doesnt like to reflect back sort of on his life or his career, but this will certainly force him to. And I know this is an emotional moment for him and its an emotional moment for everybody who has worked with him over these years." Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, Kevin Johnson and Spencer Haywood are hoping to be part of the class. They were chosen as finalists, with the full class to be unveiled April 7 during the NCAA Final Four. Hardaway and Richmond were teammates in Golden State and made up the Warriors "Run TMC" trio along with Chris Mullin, who was elected to the Hall in 2011. Stern retired on Feb. 1 after exactly 30 years as commissioner, during which he brought the league to its greatest success. Jerry Colangelo, chairman of the Hall of Fame board, said the Hall hopes to have a special spot to display a tribute to Stern. "He deserves to be recognized in a huge way," Colangelo said. Stern was elected by the contributors committee. Also directly elected to the Hall of Fame were Lithuania star Sarunas Marciulionis by the international committee, former Indiana Pacers coach Bob "Slick" Leonard by the ABA committee, former New York Knicks player Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton by the early African-American pioneers committee, and former Temple star Guy Rodgers by the veterans committee. College coaches Eddie Sutton, Nolan Richardson and Gary Williams were also finalists, as were former womens coach Harley Redin and the womens team from Immaculata College, which won three straight national championships. ROME - Roma beat Empoli 2-1 after extra time to reach the Italian Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday thanks to a very contentious penalty. http://www.buyfreeflyknitau.com/buy-women-s-nike-free-5-0-v4-cheap-shoes-electric-lime-silver-sale-australia.html .Daniele De Rossi converted the spot kick five minutes from time, sending Empoli goalkeeper Davide Bassi the wrong way, after Piotr Zielinski was harshly adjudged to have brought down Leandro Paredes. You can see that he takes his legs away, but its difficult to tell whether it was before or after he got the ball, Roma coach Rudi Garcia said. A team that has long been the MLS doormat --Toronto has won six, nine, 10, nine, six, five, and six games since coming into the league in 2007 -- enters the 2014 season as a shooting star thanks to the hoopla over high-priced signings Jermain Defoe, Michael Bradley and Giberto. "Its a bloody big deal" is the already tired slogan around the acquisition of England striker Defoe. But the atmosphere is unmistakable. "Theres a buzz," said general manager Tim Bezbatchenko. The players started arriving late this week and most trained indoors Friday, although manager Ryan Nelsen did not involve those who were are the recent Canadian national team camp in Florida. He also gave Bradley a pass, given his recent involvement in Serie A. "Michaels had a lot of football," Nelsen said. "He doesnt need it now. He just probably needs a little rest." Captain Steven Caldwell sat out with a minor calf knock while the club waited on visa paperwork for Brazils Gilberto and Jackson. Toronto leaves Sunday for Florida. The 31-year-old Defoe will remain with Englands Tottenham until the end of February. Toronto opens the season March 15 in Seattle. Nelsen says the team will give Defoe time to bed in when he gets here. "We have to be very careful and we have to judge it. Hes here for four years, its not like were going to rush him back, patch him up if we have to and throw him out on the field. We have to think long-term. "So when hes ready to play, hell be ready to play. If thats Game 1, then brilliant. If its Game 4, so be it." In his second year on the job, the 36-year-old Nelsen finds himself in a totally different situation. He arrived last year with minimal knowledge of the talent that awaited him. He has the squad of his choice largely in place this time. "In all honesty I thought it might take a couple of years to get to the situation where we are right now," said Nelsen. There was short-term pain for long-term gain last season. Some 27 players came in -- if you count Israeli defender Tal Ben Haim whose loan deal from QPR never quite happened -- and 26 exited. The revolving door has slowed ahead of 2014 but those coming in have been quality additions. The three DPs are joined by American Justin Morrow and Englands Bradley Orr on defence, Jackson and Canadian star Dwayne De Rosario in midfield and teenage Canadian forward Jordan Hamilton. The team still has some roster work to do on the status of Argentine midfielder Matias Laba and English fullback Richard Eckersley. Laba is in camp while Eckersley, with the teams blessing, is not. Laba also has a designated player deeal, meaning Toronto is one over the three DP limit. http://www.buyfreeflyknitau.com/light-pink-white-nike-free-run-2-shoes-for-women-s.html. So the club has to find a way to restructure his contract or move him on. The club likes the Argentine, who at 22 has many years ahead on him. Heres guessing the team finds a way to farm him out without losing track of him. Eckersley is a victim -- sort of -- of a rich contract that grew fatter this year when the team was forced to restructure his deal to help ease its salary cap burden last season. Toronto could take a one-time contract buyout to get out from under the Eckersley contract burden without taking a salary cap hit. Toronto can also reach a settlement with Eckersley or deal him while eating some of the contract, which would impact the cap. Other MLS teams are unlikely to take Eckersley at his current number. Still, Bezbatchenko is confident he can find a way. Given his background as a former MLS insider and the leagues seemingly fluid rules, he is likely to succeed. When it comes to his starting lineup, Nelsen often says his players -- not him -- pick the team with their performance on the pitch. When all his pieces are in place, one would expect a likely starting 11 of Joe Bendik in goal behind a backline of Morrow, Caldwell, Canadian Doneil Henry and Orr, a midfield of Jackson, Bradley, De Rosario (or fellow Canadian Jonathan Osorio) and Alvaro Rey with Gilberto and Defoe up front. Its a good-looking team sheet, although the rest of the roster is young. Nelsen likes what he sees but is realistic. He knows it takes time to turn around a franchise and establish a winning culture. "It doesnt matter who you put out on the field, the clubs got to learn how to win ... we know weve got a long way to go." Nelsen adds: "I say that with one side of my face. The other side says if theres a group of guys that can live up to any expectations, I feel like these guys will really enjoy it and will enjoy the pressure. "It will be different for them because we will have a target on our back. Everybody will want to beat us. Everybody wanted to play us because they knew they could beat us in the past. Now theyll want to play us because they will want to try to prove a point to beat us. "Its a different mentality and its going to be difficult. But its a lovely challenge to be in." A one-year partnership with the North Carolina-based Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL Pro League gives TFC a place to give some of its younger talent a chance to play. Toronto may also look to loan a player within MLS. Bezbatchenko was part of the process in getting the newly installed loan format approved while he was working in the league office. Canadian international Issey Nakajima-Farran is in the Toronto camp on trial. PHOENIX -- Joe Johnson was too tired to celebrate his game-winning shot. Adidas ZX Flux . Moments after his Brooklyn Nets teammates ran out onto the court to congratulate him following their 100-98 overtime win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, Johnson could only shake his head at scoring only 13 points on 6-of-19 shooting. But two of those shots were game-changers. The first, a short floater with 30 seconds left, sent the game into overtime. The second, a close-range teardrop, fell in as time expired. Johnson grabbed a loose ball tipped out to him by teammate Kevin Garnett and glided up the court as the clock ran down in overtime. "I knew I didnt have to take a rushed shot," Johnson said. "I just took my time coming up the court and got in the paint and made a play. I hesitated to make them (defenders) think I was going to pull up at the 3-point line. "I had to get as close as I could. Obviously, I couldnt make a shot to save my life tonight." Brook Lopez scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half and overtime and added seven rebounds and three blocked shots to help the Nets pick up their first road win of the season. The Suns had tied the game on a lob to P.J. Tucker for a dunk with 57 seconds left in overtime. Tucker scored 15 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime for the Suns, who had been undefeated at home in four previous games. Tuckers 3-pointer out of the right corner with 39.1 seconds left in regulation gave the Suns a 92-90 lead, but Johnson tied it seconds later with his floater. Goran Dragic led five Suns in double figures with 19 points. Dragic, playing with 13 stitches near his left eye from a collision with Portlands Mo Williams on Wednesday, added 10 assists. The Nets lost point guard Deron Williams with 7:26 to play in the first quarter when he went down in a heap driving to the basket. Williams hopped off the court with what was determined to be a sprained left ankle and did not return. X-rays were negative, and the team did not give a timetable for Williams return. "I landed on (teammate Mason) Plumlees foot," Williams said. "All my weight was on it (the ankle). Its frustrating. No words can describe it. Sick of getting injured, sick of being hurt. I just want to be healthy and help my team." Williams had ankle problems in the preseason. The first quarter saw the Suns lead by as many as 12 as the Nets shot 25 per cent from the field. Phoenix took its largest lead of the game at 46-32 with 3:47 to go in the second quarter after Gerald Green hit a free throw. Guard Eric Bledsoe scored all 13 of his first-half points in the quarter for the Suns. The Nets began to chip away. Shaun Livingston, Williams replacement at the point, scored the last six points of the first half and the Nets cut the Suns lead to 50-46 at halftime. Livingston finished with a season high 18 points and six assists. "Just not offensively but defensively, he was big for us," Nets coach Jason Kidd said. "You tip your hat to him." The Nets stayed hot in the third quarter, scoring the first 16 points. Lopez, with only two points at the break, had for 10 in the first six-plus minutes of the third. His layup off a pass from Livingston made the score 62-50 for Brooklyn and prompted a Phoenix timeout. "When teams get tough like that, you have to buckle down," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "Thats when other teams smell blood. They got a run going, then they turned up the defence." The Suns never led by more than four in the fourth quarter, and Johnsons driving layup with 5:21 to play gave the Nets an 84-83 lead. "They are more experienced than us, and they made the tough shot and we didnt," Dragic said. "But thats part of the sport." NOTES: Five Nets and three Suns are on the NBA All-Star ballot: Johnson, Williams, Garnett, Lopez and Paul Pierce (Fridays starting five for Brooklyn); and Bledsoe, Dragic and Markieff Morris for the Suns. ... This week that man will be backup linebacker Dane Fletcher. With Brandon Spikes joining three key defenders on injured reserve with a knee injury, Fletcher is likely to see a lot more action when the Patriots host the Indianapolis Colts in an AFC divisional-playoff game Saturday night. "Everybody has to step up," Fletcher said Tuesday. "Everybodys role kind of increases on defence, especially in the linebacker unit." Spikes, an outstanding run stopper in his fourth season, was placed on injured reserve Monday. That left the Patriots with six linebackers on their 53-man roster, including rookie free agent JaGared Davis, who was signed off the practice squad Tuesday. Two others have played very little on defence. Rookie Steve Beauharnais has one tackle in two games and Chris White has one defensive tackle while being used mostly on special teams. The remaining starters are Donta Hightower and rookie Jamie Collins, a first-round draft choice. Fletcher, a better pass defender than Spikes, has averaged just 14 defensive snaps in the 15 games hes played, starting just one. Adidas ZX 700 Uomo. He played more than half the snaps only once, against Denver and Peyton Manning. "Spikes has done a great job this year," safety Devin McCourty said, "being a guy thats been a leader on the defence, a guy thats stepped up and made key plays, I think, like hes always done, but really stepping into a leadership role. But now its next man up and being ready to go." That figures to be Fletcher. "Every play matters. Every second youre in there matters," he said. "It could be one problem play that costs your whole team so you dont want to be that guy. So its just kind of that time of the year where everything amps up in every aspect of the game." New England has played most of the season with three of its best defensive players on injured reserve. Tackle Vince Wilfork played the first four games, tackle Tommy Kelly played the first five and linebacker Jerod Mayo played the first six. The Patriots did well enough without them to earn a first-round bye. But will the latest injury be one too many? "I hope not," McCourty said with a laugh. Concord, NC (SportsNetwork. Adidas ZX 700 Donna .com) - Jeff Gordon isnt retiring from racing after the 2015 season, but the 43-year-old driver is making this his last year competing for a championship in the Sprint Cup Series. Gordon, a four-time champion in NASCARs premier series, announced to his Hendrick Motorsports team and then revealed on Twitter on Thursday that this will be his final year competing for a title. He has driven the No. 24 Chevrolet for team owner Rick Hendrick in the series since November 1992. His Cup championships occurred in 1995, 97, 98 and 2001. As a race car driver, much of what Ive done throughout my life has been based on following my instincts and trying to make good decisions, Gordon said in a team statement. I thought long and hard about my future this past year and during the offseason, and Ive decided 2015 will be the last time I compete for a championship. I wont use the R-word because I plan to stay extremely busy in the years ahead, and theres always the possibility Ill compete in selected events, although I currently have no plans to do that. Since his Cup debut in the 92 season-ending race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Gordon has made 761 consecutive and career starts. His 92 career victories places him third on the series all-time race winners list, behind only Richard Petty (200) and David Pearson (105). Among those race wins include three in the Daytona 500 and a record five in the Brickyard 400. Gordon also holds the record for most victories on road courses with nine. Gordon had one of his best seasons since his most recent championship in 01. He won four races, including the Brickyard 400, and had a series-high 23 top-10 finishes. Gordon came up one point short of advancing into the final four for the Nov. 16 championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He finished sixth in the point standings. Theres simply no way to quantify Jeffs impact, said Hendrick, who first noticed Gordon during a race at Atlanta in March 92. Hes one of the biggest sports stars of a generation, and his contributions to the success and growth of NASCAR are unsurpassed. Theres been no better ambassador for stock car racing and no greater representation of what a champion should be. I will never be able to properly express the respect and admiration I have for Jeff and how meaningful our relationship is to me. Im so grateful for everything hes done for our company and my family, and I look forward to many more years together as friends and business partners. HMS said in a news release that it will announce plans for its 2016 team alignment at a later date. Jimmie Johnson, the six-time Sprint Cup champion, Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCARs most-popular driver, and Kasey Kahne also drive for the organization. Gordon has been dealing with back problems in previous years. Last May, he suffered from back spasms during the weekend of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He completed that race, finishing seventh, but Xfinity Series regular Regan Smith was on standby. Gordon is 27 races away from tying Ricky Rudds record of 788 consecutive starts in the series. I dont foresee a day when Ill ever step away from racing, Gordon said. Im a fan of all forms of motorsports, but particularly NASCAR. We have a tremendous product, and Im passionate about the business and its future success. As an equity owner in Hendrick Motorsports, Im a partner with Rick (Hendrick) and will remain heavily involved with the company for many years to come. It means so much to have the chance to continue working with the owner who took a chance on me and the incredible team that?s stood behind me every step of the way. In learning of Gordons announcement, NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France released a statement, saying, Jeff Gordon transcends NASCAR and will be celebrated as one of the greatest drivers to ever race. We have all enjoyed watching his legend grow for more than two decades, and will continue to do so during his final full-time season. His prolonged excellence and unmatched class continue to earn him the admiration of fans across the globe. Todays announcement is a bittersweet one. The Oakland As have the best record in the American League at 13-5 and are second only to Milwaukee by  a half-game for best record in the Majors. Nike Roshe Run Pas Cher . This organizations success, at times, defies logic. They play in the most in-need-of-repair stadium in the Majors and traditionally draw in the bottom third, if not worse, in the Majors. Yet, here they are at 13-5 atop the American League West after starting last season at 12-5 en route to a 96-win season. There were a couple of things that caught my attention about the As 4-1 victory over Houston. First, it was the starting pitcher. Jesse Chavez was actually with the Blue Jays back in 2012 as a reliever. He didnt see much action with a team that had three starters - Brandon Morrow, Drew Hutchison and Kyle Drabek - down with injuries. Later that year, the Jays lost the then 28-year-old on a waiver claim by Oakland. Last season, he worked in the As pen as a reliever. Now the As, thanks in part to injuries, have given the 30-year-old right hander the chance to start. So far, it looks as though the As have struck gold. Chavez has made four starts and in doing so, became the first starter in franchise history to go at least six innings in his first four outings and give up one or fewer runs in each. Sunday, he picked up his first Major League victory as a starter and has solidified his spot in the Oakland rotation. The other thing I noticed is the As lineup. Of the 11 players who appeared in that 4-1 victory over Houston, only one was actually signed and developed by Oakland. That was budding Cuban star Yoenis Cespedes, who defected in 2011 and signed a four-year, $36 million contract with the As in February of 2012. All the rest were picked up in trades - many descript or on waiver claims or lower-tier free agents. Take Daric Barton, who came on late in the game to play first, but can also catch. He was picked up in a trade with St. Louis, along with infielder Kiko Calero and right hander Dan Haren, for then ace lefty Mark Mulder, who ultimately blew out his shoulder with the Redbirds, sat out a few years and ultimately had to abandon a comeback this spring. Barton is still contributing to the As and Haren is still going strong elsewhere. Josh Donaldson failed as a catcher in the Cubs organization and with the As. Then they made him into a third baseman and hes turned into a star. The As, with a limited payroll, just keep finding ways. If you roll back the clock to the year 2000 and then go over the As records over the following 14 seasons, theyve had nine winning seasons, four losing seasons and one .500 season. In fact, they had five seasons in a row between 2007 and 2011 where they only reached .500 once. But their successes have been mighty; two seasons with over 100 victories and seven more with at least 91. In 14 years, the As have finished first in the AL West six times. They have made the postseason eight times. Grant you, they have only won one division series and were defeated in the only ALCS they made it to. But I dont think I have to remind you there have been plenty of other teams that havent come close to making the postseason over that 14 year span, teams that have a lot more money to spend and better venues to play in. The other amazing thing about the As is their attendance. If you go back to when they were the Athletics in Philadelphia, where they resided for 54 years, the Athletics never broke one million in attendance once. During their 13 seasons in Kansas City, the As only surpassed one million twice, while in 46 years in Oakland, they have only bettered the two million mark, which is generally conceded to be the break-even point, 11 times. How good have they been over the last 14 years? Well collectively, they have finished 204 games above .500. The only two teams in the American League that have been head and shoulders better than them are the Yankees at 390 games over .500 with two World Series wins and two losses, and Boston at 265 games over .500 with three World Series triumphs. Billy Beane and Moneyball may have been overrated to a degree, but the As have proven to be one of the great franchises in the game against all odds. The Blue Jays have a significant homestand starting up Tuesday night. Baltimore comes to town for three followed by Boston for three. At 10-9, the Jays are one game ahead of the Orioles and Bosox. The Jays starting rotation will have to deliver more innings over these next six games. Last turn through the starting five, lefty Mark Buehrle was the only one able to get through the sixth and then beyond. The Jays have a bit of a psychological edge in both these series. The Orioles will be coming off an emotional Patriots Day game in Boston Monday morning and a draining series against the Bosox. Then Boston goes from that series to a three gamer with the Yankees. Both the Os and the Red Sox could be a little battle worn by the time they hit Toronto. Everybody talks about the Jays someday regretting trading Noah Syndergaard to the Mets. Well Henderson Alvarez is already in the Majors and looking dominant at times with the Miami Marlins. Saturday at home, he hit 96 MPH on the radar gun and pitched a complete game two-hitter, as the Marlins shut out Seattle 7-0. He faced just 28 batters, one over the minimum. It was Alvarezs first victory since he no-hit the Tigers on the final day of last season.  He is 1-2 this season with a 2.66 ERA. Giants righty Tim Hudson is joining some exclusive company. He set a Giants record over the weekend by throwing 30 innings without issuing a single walk. He has also come close to a Major League mark by starting a season with four games of at least seven innings without walking a single batter. A gentleman by the name of "Tiny" Bonham also did that in 1944, according to ESPN, and Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander had a six game run in 1923. We mentioned right hander Dan Haren a little earlier in connection with the As. Well, hes trying to reboot his career with the Dodgers. His control has been impeccable in the early going. He has 20 strikeouts and just two walks. Of all active pitchers, Dan Haren has the top strikeout-to-walk ratio at 4.09 to one. Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit Promo . - With Dwyane Wade in the locker room and Chris Bosh enduring a nightmare of a shooting night, the Miami Heat still found the defensive moxie to finish an unlikely Staples Center sweep. Nike Roshe Run Flyknit Noir . But the Canadiens needed a third-period goal from Tomas Plekanec and some fine saves from Carey Price to down the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Sunday night and take a choke hold on their NHL Eastern Conference playoff series.MIAMI -- A South Florida businessman pleaded not guilty Thursday following his arrest for his alleged role in a human smuggling venture that brought Los Angeles Dodgers star Yasiel Puig out of Cuba. Gilberto Suarez, 40, entered the plea to a charge of alien smuggling conspiracy during a brief hearing in Miami federal court and was granted release on $120,000 bail. He was arrested Wednesday by agents with Homeland Security Investigations, an arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The indictment includes few details and only identifies Puig by his initials. But it does seek forfeiture of any money obtained by Suarez from Puigs $42 million contract as well as just under $3 million in cash, a condominium, a Miami house, a 2014 Mercedes-Benz and a 2013 Porsche. A civil lawsuit filed in Miami against Puig contains details about Suarezs alleged involvement in the plot. Those documents describe Suarez as one of the Miami-based men who financed Puigs 2012 trip by boat from Cuba to Isla Mujeres, a fishing village near Cancun, Mexico. The initial price for the trip was $250,000, then was raised by the smugglers to $400,000. An affidavit in the lawsuit by a Cuban boxer who was on the trip said the financiers eventually hired men to take them away from the smugglers to Mexico City. The boxer, Yunior Despaigne, said in the affidavit that he met Suarez and others while in Mexico City. Puig, a 23-year-old outfielder, later signed a seven-year, $42 million contract with the DDodgers. Nike Free Grise Et Rose. After a stellar rookie season in 2013, Puig this year is batting .290 with 13 home runs and 60 runs batted in for the first-place Dodgers. Despaigne said in the affidavit he was told that Suarez and others were supposed to receive a sizable percentage of Puigs contract. Later, after Despaigne had crossed the U.S. border in Texas, he said he met with Suarez in Miami. Despaigne was told, he said in the affidavit, that one of the original smugglers who was issuing threats because he had not been paid would be "neutralized." Suarez told the boxer to look up the mans name on the Internet, where Despaigne found articles that he had been shot and killed near Cancun. The lawsuit, filed by a man jailed in Cuba, claims Puig falsely accused him of human trafficking to curry favour with Cuban authorities so he could rejoin Cubas national baseball team. Puig had been removed from the team because of fears he would defect. Through attorneys, Puig has denied the allegations. Last month in a separate case, Eliezer Lazo, described by prosecutors as the mastermind of a massive Cuban human smuggling operation, pleaded guilty to extortion charges. Among the more than 1,000 people smuggled in that case were several athletes including Texas Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin, according to court documents. Lazo faces up to 20 years behind bars when sentenced Nov. 10. A second man, Juan Urrutia, is scheduled to plead guilty next week in that case. BUFFALO, N. Nike Flyknit Lunar 2 Grigie .Y. -- Kiko Alonsos season is over before it even began after the Buffalo Bills starting linebacker was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his left knee. General manager Doug Whaley provided the update in a statement released by the team on Wednesday, a day after Alonso was hurt while working out in Oregon. Whaley said Alonso will require surgery to repair a torn ACL, and "will likely miss the 2014 season." The Bills did not provide any details as to how Alonso was hurt. The injury is a significant blow to the Bills before they even open training camp in suburban Rochester on July 20. Alonso was an NFL defensive rookie of the year contender last season after being drafted in the second round out of Oregon. He led Buffalo with 159 tackles, two fumble recoveries and tied for the team lead with four interceptions while barely missing a snap in playing all 16 games. After playing in the middle last season, Alonso was moving to the outside linebacker spot as part of the Bills shift to a 4-3 defensive scheme under new co-ordinator Jim Schwartz. The position switch was also sparked in part by the Bills signing of run-stopping specialist Brandon Spikes, who is better suited to play in the middle. Alonso had hip surgery this off-season, which limited him in participating in spring practices. But he was expected to be ready for the start of camp. "We feel badly for Kiko, because he has worked very hard this off-season in preparation for the upcoming season," Whaley said. "But we look forward to his return with his style of play that made him one of the leagues outstanding rookies in 2013." The Bills do have some depth behind Alonso. Manny Lawson, an eight-year NFL veteran, has experience playing the position. The Bills also selected linebacker Preston Brown in the third round of the draft in April. Nike Roshe One Nere . ESPN, citing anonymous sources, reported Tuesday that Darren Erman secretly recorded coaches meetings, conversations between coaches and players, and informal discussions. Its unclear what Erman did with the alleged recordings. Golden State fired Erman on April 5 for what the team called a "violation of company policy." The Warriors neither confirmed nor denied the report Tuesday, saying only that they "were unaware of the violation, and when made aware, we took immediate action." Erman already has landed a job with another team. A spokesman for the Boston Celtics confirmed to The Associated Press that the team hired Erman as an NBA scout. Erman was in his third season with the Warriors after spending four years with the Celtics, where he worked under Doc Rivers, who is now the coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. Erman also coached the Warriors summer league championship team in Las Vegas last year. Nike Flyknit Lunar 2. Erman was the second assistant dismissed from Mark Jacksons staff this season. Jackson reassigned Brian Scalabrine -- a former Celtics player -- to the teams NBA Development League affiliate in Santa Cruz on March 25 because of what Jackson called a "difference in philosophies." At Golden States shootaround before Game 5 in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Jackson declined comment when asked about the reports but said Erman is "an outstanding coach who did a great job." Jackson also reiterated that the moves involving two of his assistants -- which have fueled discussion about his own job status after the season -- are not representative of a dysfunctional atmosphere on his staff. "There was no dysfunction," Jackson said. "I had a great staff. Its been a great year, and we are 2-2 with an opportunity to win Game 5 against this Clippers team. Its been a great year for us on the court, and we are together as a staff and as a team. Nothing has changed. "You can make a mistake. That doesnt mean thats my dysfunction. Its documented." NEW YORK -- Centre Brook Lopez has broken a bone in his right foot again, leaving the Brooklyn Nets without their leading scorer as they try to turn around a disappointing season. Nike Roshe Run Flyknit Cheap . The team said Saturday that Lopez was hurt during its 121-120 overtime loss at Philadelphia on Friday. The Nets said they would issue another update next week after consultation with their doctors. Lopez had the same injury, a fractured fifth metatarsal, when he was limited to five games in the 2011-12 season. He underwent surgery following last season to replace a bent screw in the foot. Lopez is averaging 20.7 points and 6.0 rebounds in 17 games. He has missed nine with a sprained left ankle. Though was no indication he was seriously injured Friday, when he played 44 minutes. The 7-footer from Stanford didnt miss a game during his first three seasons in the NBA, but hasnt made it through a full season since. He missed seven games last season when he sprained the same foot. The Nets are just 9-17 after entering the season with huge expectations. They have Andray Blatche and Reggie Evans as possible replacements on the bench, or could move Kevin Garnett to the centre position, as the Boston Celtics did last season. After a quick start this season, with six goals in about a month, the 22-year-old defenceman slowed down and was scoreless for 11 straight games. In the first period Saturday against Winnipeg, he had a giveaway in the Bruins zone that helped the Jets take a 1-0 lead. "Thats frustrating," said Krug, who assisted on the tying goal and then scored twice to lead Boston to a 4-1 victory. "Its all about putting it into the past and forgetting about it." Daniel Paille also scored for Boston, and Tuukka Rask made 36 saves for the Bruins before they embark on a three-game California trip. Dustin Byfuglien scored and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 25 shots for Winnipeg. The Jets have lost two in a row since bringing a three-game winning streak into the new year. Byfuglien gave the Jets the lead midway through the first period after Krug failed to clear the zone. But Boston tied it when Krug coasted in from the blue line and found Paille on the other side of the crease for quick redirect. The Bruins took the lead 3 minutes into the second when Krug wristed one through traffic and made it 3-1 four minutes later when he put another wrist shot on net and it was redirected past the goalie by Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba. "He handled himself well. He played well. When hes on top of his game, offensively, he makes things happen," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "Just a few times its about him making safe plays. Thats a part of his game hes working on."t; Krug, who got a stick in the face on his final shift and had two cuts on his lip to show for it, said he was hoping that the first goal would have been tipped in by Justin Florek, who was making his NHL debut. Nike Air Max 2015 Ireland. The second one was first credited to Carl Soderberg before it was changed to Krug. "Any time you cant contribute the way you were before, it can be frustrating," Krug said. Bruins defenceman Adam McQuaid said it was nice to see Krug contributing goals again. "The guys capable of doing it," he said. "It brings an element to our D corps that we need." Boston made it 4-1 when Reilly Smith cleaned up after Brad Marchands shot got past Pavelec. There were three fights in the game, with Zdeno Chara matching up against Chris Thorburn in the first period, followed 2 seconds later by Matt Fraser and James Wright. McQuaid fought with former Bruin Mark Stuart in the third period. "It was an opportunity for me to do something during the game early on, so I was trying to get into it," Thorburn said. BELMONT, Mich. Darryl Strawberry Jersey . -- Sandra Gal made six straight birdies on her back nine Thursday to take the first-round lead in the Meijer LPGA Classic, while Michelle Wie withdrew because of a wrist injury. Gal, the 29-year-old German who won her lone LPGA Tour title in 2011, birdied Nos. 3-8 and finished with a par on No. 9 for a 6-under 65 at Blythefield Country Club. "I was in a zone, I was really relaxed," Gal said. "I was talking a lot to my caddie and to my playing partners, just kind of letting it happen instead of forcing it." Wie was 5 over after nine holes when she pulled out. She fought injuries to both wrists in 2007. "It just started hurting last week and kept getting worse," Wie said in the parking lot outside the medical trailer. "It got to the point where I really couldnt hold a club today. Im going to try and get an MRI right now and see what my next steps are. So well see." The U.S. Womens Open winner in June for her second victory of the year, Wie said she hoped to be able to play next week in the LPGA Championship -- the fourth major championship of the season. South Koreas Inbee Park was a stroke behind Gal. Australias Katherine Kirk opened with a 67, and Azahara Munoz was another stroke back along with IIhee Lee, Katy Harris, Gerina Piller, Amy Young and Line Vedel. Second-ranked Lydia Ko, the 17-year-old star coming off a victory in the Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio, matched Paula Creamer with a 69, and top-ranked Stacy Lewis shot 70. Gal played in the morning wave in the LPGA Tours first regular tournament in Michigan since the Oldsmobile Classic ended its nine-year run in East Lansing in 2000. Gal said her birdie run, which tied the best string on the tour this season, was a combination of hitting her iron shots inside 10 feet on each of the holes and then making solid putting strokes. "You have to be on the right side of the hole to have chances at birdies and I was on the front nine," she said. "I like this old-style type course and the greens are perfect. There were no long putts, just solid ones after good iron shots and I hit a couple real close, like 3 or 4 feet. It was a little bit of everything." Park has one victory this year after winning six times last season. "Everything was working really well today, especially the iron shots," she said. "The greens are rolling really well, too. Theyre rolling really true. I hit a lot of good putts so thats giving me confidence going into the next three days." Lewis, who has three wins and 13 top-10 finishes this year, said she played better than she scored. "Ive been working on a few things with my golf swing and was pretty happy actually with the way I hit it -- just had a bunch of putts right over the edge," Lewis said. "Overall, pretty happy with it even though the score is not quite what I was looking for." Ko had the same issue with putts just missing. "The golf course is in great shape so the birdies are there to be made," she said. "I just didnt make as many as I would have liked. I really like the way Im playing, though." Wozniacki, who lost in the finals here to Kim Clijsters in 2009 and made the semifinals in 2010 and 2011, will face Italian Sara Errani in the next round. "Well, it means a lot to me. You know, the season for me has been a little bit up and down, and its so nice to kind of start feeling like Im playing the way I want to," said Wozniacki. No. 13 Errani opened the day with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 win over 32-year-old qualifier Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.
