BOSTON -- Clay Buchholz feels like hes ready for the postsesason. He just wont have a perfect record when he gets there. Buchholz lost for the first time this season, and the AL East champion Boston Red Sox rested a couple of regulars while falling to Mark Buehrle and the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2, on Saturday night. Having missed more than three months with a strained neck, Buchholz feels like his strength is where it was before the injury. He just needs to fine tune a few things. "I feel good. Movement on all the pitches is there," he said. "Its just the command and location and where to start it, which is sometimes hard to get better. The velocity is there and the body feels good." Buchholz (11-1) gave up two earned runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. He had pitched 11 scoreless innings in his previous two starts since coming off the disabled list. A day after the Red Sox clinched the division title, they lost for just the sixth time in 21 games. Manager John Farrell didnt start second baseman Dustin Pedroia and first baseman Mike Napoli, and used starter Ryan Dempster for an inning of relief. Buchholz was the first Boston pitcher to start a season 11-0 in his initial 14 starts since Roger Clemens went 13-0 in 1986. "I thought Clay was pretty sharp and pretty crisp for the time he was out on the mound tonight," Farrell said. "He was fighting to get back out for the seventh, but seeing the progression hes on, I think was a comfortable number of pitches for tonight." Buchholz broke into a slight grin when he was asked about how hard it is to go undefeated for an entire season. "It probably could have easily have happened sooner than now," he said. "The guys that play behind me all year have found ways to come back in situations where I came out of the game behind in the game." Bostons lead over Oakland dropped to 1 1/2 games for the ALs best record and home-field throughout the post-season. Dempster made his first relief appearance since 2007, working a scoreless eighth. Boston third baseman Will Middlebrooks shifted to first for the first time in his career. Jonny Gomes and David Ross each drove in a run for the Red Sox. Adam Linds RBI double highlighted a three-run fourth that carried the Blue Jays. Buehrle (12-9) held Boston to one run for the third time in five starts that hes faced them this year. He allowed five hits, striking out five without walking a batter. He reached 200 innings for the 13th straight season. "Wish it was in a better situation," Buehrle said of reaching the mark again. Manager John Gibbons was impressed by the left-handers season. "Steady Eddy," Gibbons said. "Doing what he has been doing his whole career. You get 25 Buehrles and you are probably gonna have a good year." Casey Janssen pitched the ninth for his 33rd save in 35 chances. Torontos Munenori Kawasaki was ejected by first base umpire Eric Cooper in the eighth after slamming his helmet when he was called out on a close play. The Blue Jays scored all three runs with two outs in the fourth after Brett Lawrie beat out a routine grounder to short for an infield hit. Lind followed with an RBI double, Rajai Davis added a run-scoring single and Moises Sierra scored from third on Buchholzs errant pickoff throw to first. Gomes RBI single cut it to 3-1 in the sixth. Ross run-scoring grounder sliced it to 3-2 in the seventh after Xander Bogaerts reached second on Lawries fielding error at third base. J.P. Arencibia snapped an 0-for-27 stretch with an RBI single off the Green Monster in the Toronto ninth. NOTES: Pedroia had started 151 of the teams initial 152 games. He pinch-hit in the seventh and struck out. "The hardest thing is hes not going to know what to do," Farrell said, joking before the game. "He may end up back on the field because we want to get him the heck out of the dugout." ... Middlebrooks knew things would be a different in his debut at first. "Ive never played first in my life," he said, standing on the field after batting practice. "The hardest thing for me is going to be how to try and hold the runners on, which way to stand with my footwork." ... The club is planning for his return before the end of the regular season. ... Felix Doubront (10-6, 4.15 ERA) goes for Boston against R.A. The Detroit Tigers are slumping, losing five of their last six, yet remained on top of the TSN.ca MLB Power Rankings thanks to other top challengers going through their own struggles. Under any other circumstances, the Los Angeles Dodgers or Pittsburgh Pirates would have been poised to overtake the Tigers, but the Dodgers and Pirates both lost four of their last five, preventing them from moving up the ladder. Regaining the American League West lead, the Oakland As have won 12 of their last 16 and move up from 10 to seven. The surging Cleveland Indians, 6-2 in September, are up from 15 to 12. Further down the list, the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays are winning when it doesnt matter so much for their respective seasons. Nevertheless, the Phillies are up from 23 to 18 after going 13-8 in their last 21 games while the Blue Jays are up from 25 to 22 after a 10-3 record in their last 13 games. Heading in the wrong direction, the Texas Rangers are struggling offensively and have lost six of eight in September, dropping in the rankings from four to eight. All is not well in Chicago, where the Cubs fell from 21 to 25 and the White Sox dropped from 24 to 27. The Winnipeg Jets conclude a five-game regular season series with the Nashville Predators this afternoon at Bridgestone Arena. The Jets are 1-2-1 against Nashville this year despite outscoring the Predators 11-10. Blake Wheeler and Olli Jokinen lead Winnipeg with four points, while Craig Smith has four for the Predators. Ondrej Pavelec and Carter Hutton have tended goal in parts of all four games. Due to the 2pm ct face off, neither team had a pregame skate this morning resulting in both line ups unknown until they take to the ice for warm-up. The (29-26-6) Jets are two points behind the Dallas Stars for a Western Conference Wild Card playoff spot. Dallas has two games in hand on Winnipeg. The (26-24-10) Predators trail Winnipeg by two points. Nashville has a 5-2-3 record in their last 10 games. Five teams continue a close race for a Wild Card playoff spot. Dallas and Vancouver each have 66 points, Phoenix has 65, Winnipeg 64 and Nashville 62. Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler each have one goal and two assists in their last three games. Tuesdays 3-2 shootout win at the MTS Centre over Phoenix improved the Jets shootout record to 6-5. They had lost their last three in a row. The Predators are 1-7 in shootouts this season. Winnipeg has the top-ranked penalty kill on the road in the NHL at 87.5%. That will be tested today as the Predators scored three power play goals in their 3-2 Tuesday vs Tampa Bay. The Preds power play is ranked third in the NHL on home ice at 24.7%. Nashville has a 15-0-3 record when leading after 40 minutes. Their celebration is muted while they wait to see if they lost their quarterback. And if they did, just for how long. Jake Locker threw a career-high three touchdowns before injuring his hip seriously enough to send him to the hospital, and the Titans finished off a 38-13 rout Sunday of the Jets for their second straight victory. Locker was hurt with 11:14 left in the third quarter when hit first by Muhammad Wilkerson after throwing an incomplete pass, then popped by Quinton Coples. He grabbed at his hip as he went to the ground and was taken from the field before being loaded into an ambulance. Titans coach Mike Munchak did not have an update or a diagnosis after the game. "When its your quarterback, it seems to hurt more," Munchak said. A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that Locker was spending Sunday night in the hospital. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Titans had not updated Lockers condition. The Tennessean first reported Locker was being admitted to St. Thomas Midtown Hospital. Alterraun Verner intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble, Karl Klug sacked Smith and stripped him of the ball for a TD as the Titans turned Smiths four turnovers into 28 points. Ropati Pitoitua had two of Tennessees five sacks as the Titans (3-1) continued their surprising start. The Jets (2-2) couldnt overcome Smiths rookie mistakes, especially not after receiver Stephen Hill was knocked out of the game with a head injury on the second offensive play. Smith had one fewer turnover than Mark Sanchez did last December when the Jets lost to the Titans 14-10 in an ugly game between two teams headed to 6-10 finishes. The Jets cut their penalties in half from a week ago when they had 20, but it wasnt enough with all the turnovers. "It shocks me," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "I never expected for the game to turn out like this. Certainly a shock. I dont know what else to say." The Jets now get to look for answers. The Titans already have half as many wins through the first month as they managed all of 2012, and they joined the 1995 St. Louis Rams as the only teams in the Super Bowl era without a turnover through the first four games. But the victory was overshadowed by Lockers injury. Wilkerson said he didnt realize Locker was hurt and that the referee told him it was a clean hit. "It was a clean hit,"; Wilkerson said.dddddddddddd. "If it was late the ref would have thrown a flag. They didnt throw a flag." Locker missed five games last year with a dislocated shoulder, an injury that affected him throughout the season. Fully healthy, Locker was starting to play like the franchise quarterback the Titans wanted when they drafted him No. 8 overall in 2011 out of Washington. Against the Jets, Locker completed passes to seven different receivers with TD passes to Delanie Walker, Nate Washington and rookie Justin Hunter for a 24-6 halftime lead. "It was a really big shot," Chris Johnson said of losing Locker. "We had a lot of momentum, everything going our way and just for the play to happen like that ... it just kind of sucked it all out of us." Ryan Fitzpatrick, signed in March to back up Locker, started slowly coming off the bench. But he connected with Washington on a 77-yard TD during which the receiver went up for the ball away from Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, knocked down back judge Billy Smith as he landed and then ran to the end zone for a 38-13 lead midway through the fourth quarter. "I was brought here for a reason, and the reason I was brought here was to help Jake out and be ready for a situation like this if it came up," Fitzpatrick said. The Jets managed one TD drive in the fourth quarter as Smith threw a 34-yard pass to Jeff Cumberland. Nick Folk kicked a pair of field goals. It just wasnt enough with the Titans blitzing Smith and hitting him repeatedly. Verner stepped in front of Hill and intercepted Smiths first pass at midfield and ran it back 34 yards with safety Michael Griffin levelling Hill after the catch. Verner also recovered a fumble after Titans linebacker Zach Brown chopped the ball away from Smith, setting up Lockers second TD pass. Verner got his second interception late in the first half to set up Lockers third TD pass to Hunter. "The balls just finding me right now," Verner said. Notes: Ryan said WR Santonio Holmes hurt a hamstring, but didnt have any information about the severity. ... Washington went over 5,000 yards receiving for his career with his 77-yard TD catch. ... Griffin and Jets safety Dawan Landry each played in their 100th career games. ... The Titans won their fourth straight at home dating to last season, their first such winning streak since five consecutive wins in 2009. ... Munchak now is 18-18 as a head coach. TORONTO - After falling victim to slow starts in each of the last two games, both losses, Raptors coach Dwane Casey hinted change could be on the way. "Weve got to look at our starts," said Casey, the afternoon following a 90-83 defeat to Miami, one in which his team fell behind by nine in the first quarter. "Thats the second game in a row thats happened." Toronto allowed the Heat to shoot 52 per cent in the first quarter four days after the Nets shot 60 per cent in the opening 12 minutes of Tuesdays loss. Despite a second-half push, the Raptors failed to dig themselves out of an early-game hole in both contests, prompting Casey to suggest that a change could be imminent as soon as Sundays game, at home to Denver, or in Oakland against Golden State on Tuesday. "Whether its a lineup change or a change in personality," he continued, "weve got to look at something to start the game because we cant expend that much mental and physical energy to fight against all the teams were going against, and thats what its been the last couple of weeks." The Raptors - who used 22 different starting lineups last season, sixth most in the NBA - have started the same unit in each game to begin the campaign. After experiencing some success on the floor together - specifically on the defensive end - towards the end of last season, the group of Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Amir Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas has underachieved through 15 contests this year. That unit - the Raptors most used, both this season and last - outscored opponents by 85 points when they were in the game together a year ago, starting 21 of the teams final 25 games. They ranked third in the NBA in defensive efficiency among five-man units that played a minimum of 300 minutes together (only the Spurs and Grizzlies starting fives had a better defensive rating). This season they are a minus-35, per NBA.com/stats, and are allowing opponents to shoot 52 per cent from the field. They have shared the floor for 229 minutes while the teams second most-utilized unit - Lowry, DeRozan, Gay and Johnson with Landry Fields - has played just 34 minutes together. As a team, Toronto has been least effective in the first and third quarters, with the starters playing the bulk of the teams minutes. The Raptors are a plus-three in the opening frame and minus-39 in the third. Their best quarter has been the fourth - a period in which the starters have rarely played together - where their plus-45 mark is third best in the NBA (behind only the Pacers and Thunder). "I think you have to look at the chemistry, skill set, what they bring to the table, a little bit of everything," Casey said of a possible change. "I dont question our guys fight. Its not that were not playing hard, its just not meshing together with the first group." Two starters who could be on the hot seat are Johnson and Valanciunas. Both frontcourt players logged fewer than 18 minutes in Fridays loss and have failed to meet lofty pre-season expectations overall. Tyler Hansbrough, who played 25 minutes and helped turn the game around in the second half with his physicality, earned praise from his coach following Saturdays practice and could be a candidate to replace either Johnson or Valanciunas in the event Casey decides to make a change. "It may be just a matter of time to let it go," Casey said. "Were still searching, like a lot of teams in the league are doing. Were not panicking but weve got to make sure we understand and we get the right group together." LOUIS -- St. ATLANTA -- Kyle Korver said Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer "laid into us" at halftime. The response from Korver and the Hawks, especially in the third quarter, earned postgame praise from the first-year coach. Korver scored 24 points, including a trio of 3-pointers in a third-quarter stretch that gave Atlanta the lead, and the Hawks overcame Kevin Loves 43 points to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 120-113 on Saturday night. Korver hit each of his four shots and had 12 points in the third, when the Hawks outscored the Timberwolves 38-21. "I thought the guys responded," Korver said. "Obviously, it was a great third quarter for us. Hopefully he doesnt have to talk to us like that all the time. It worked tonight." Budenholzer said defence sparked Atlantas comeback from an 11-point deficit in the second period. "I think the third quarter tonight was something we can reference going forward on how we want to play, particularly defensively, to hold them to 21 points in a quarter with the way they can score," Budenholzer said. Budenholzer said guard DeMarre Carroll, who had 19 points, "set a defensive tone for us and I think everybody else follows that." Paul Millsap, guarded by Love much of the night in a matchup of All-Stars, had 20 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Even with the dominant third quarter, the Hawks had to hold on late. A jam by Minnesotas Corey Brewer with 2:55 remaining cut Atlantas lead to 107-104. Jeff Teague, who had 19 points, drove for a layup and Carrolls free throws pushed the lead to seven points. Loves 3-pointer again trimmed the margin to three before Atlantas Gustavo Ayon banked in an unlikely scoop shot to thwart the comeback attempt. Love, who grabbed 19 rebounds while playing with a sore left ankle, had 21 points in the final period and finished two points shy of his season high. "I didnt even know I had (43) to be honest," Love said. "I think (Kevin Martin) told me after the game. I was just trying to get us back in the game by aany means.dddddddddddd My teammates set me up with a lot of good shots but, yeah, a loss right now, its just tough." Love said the Timberwolves missed centre Nikola Pekovic, who sat out his third straight game with bursitis in his right ankle. Pekovic could have been especially important against the undersized Hawks. "To not have Peck in a game like this, really the last (three) games, its really tough, just because he takes up so much space," Love said. "Youre having to make up for 20 points and 10 rebounds." Martin had 17 points for the Timberwolves (23-24), who fell under .500 with their second straight loss. Korver, guarded closely by Brewer much of the game, missed his only 3-point attempt in the first half. Korver finally broke free to sink his first 3 with 7:32 remaining in the third quarter for a 60-all tie, extending his NBA record to 115 consecutive games with a 3. Korver added another 3-pointer about a minute later and sank his third with 4:20 remaining in the quarter, giving Atlanta a 73-62 lead. "Once he got one, its tough," Brewer said. "I tried to chase him and make it tough on him all night. ... But hes a great shooter. He has the record for a reason." Minnesota opened the final period with quick 3s by J.J. Barea and Alexey Shved to trim Atlantas lead to 86-81. Barea was ejected with 6:43 remaining. He was called for a technical foul on Minnesotas end of the court and argued his case at the other end, stepping inside the 3-point arc before finally being tossed as Korver was setting up for a free throw. NOTES: Millsap fouled out with 4:19 remaining. ... Ricky Rubio had 11 assists for Minnesota. ... NAPLES, Italy -- Napoli humiliated Roma 3-0 on Wednesday to progress 5-3 on aggregate to the Italian Cup final against Fiorentina. Jose Maria Callejon headed in Cristian Maggios cross to give Napoli the lead shortly after the half hour mark against last years runners-up. The goal would have seen Napoli progress on away goals after its 3-2 defeat in Rome last week. Callejon almost doubled his tally immediately after the restart when he forced a fantastic fingertip save from former Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis. The resulting corner was flicked on for Gonzalo Higuain to head into the top corner. Jorginho sealed the result three minutes later after a deft pass from Dries Mertens sent him clean through on goal. LOS ANGELES -- Make no bones about it. Coach Mike DAntonis skeleton roster was no match for the opportunistic Charlotte Bobcats and Al Jeffersons dominating presence in the paint. Jefferson tied a career high with 40 points, 16 of them in the fourth quarter, and grabbed 18 rebounds to help the Bobcats send the floundering Los Angeles Lakers to their sixth straight defeat with a 110-100 victory Friday night. "I have those moments," Jefferson said. "They kept running plays for me and I kept scoring. In the first quarter, they werent going down for me, but I just kept staying with it because I knew sooner or later it would start going down for me. " Jefferson set a franchise record with his 11th straight game of 20 or more points, eclipsing the mark set by Jason Richardson in 2007-08. It was the 13th game this season in which an opposing player scored at least 30 against the Lakers, something that happened in 18 games last season -- and there are still 35 games remaining. Jefferson is averaging 19.9 points and 10.7 boards, but wasnt selected for the All-Star game and has yet to play in one in his 10 years in the league. "Ive been disappointed with the All-Star games, man, for many years. So I dont listen to the hype," Jefferson said. Gerald Henderson added 20 points for the Bobcats. Starting point guard Kemba Walker missed his sixth straight game since a sprained left ankle ended his career-opening consecutive game streak of 190. Ramon Sessions, who has started every game at the point during Walkers absence, had 13 assists and nine points. Sessions, along with starting power forward Josh McRoberts and reserve guard Jannero Pargo -- all former Lakers -- combined for 26 points and the Bobcats snapped a string of five straight defeats against Los Angeles. Charlotte shot 52.3 per cent from the field, improving to 5-0 when shooting at least 50 per cent. The victory was the Bobcats ninth on the road, four more than all of last season. Still missing Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar and Xavier Henry because of injuries, the Lakers lost for the 18th time in 21 games andd are only a half-game ahead of last-place Sacramento in the Western Conference standings just four seasons after winning their 16th NBA title.ddddddddddddPau Gasol had 24 points for Los Angeles and Nick Young added 21 off the bench. The Lakers have given up 100 or more points in 14 consecutive games, matching the clubs longest such streak since a 17-game stretch in 1986-87. Trailing by as many as 20 points after a pair of free throws by Jefferson with 4:21 left in the third quarter, the Lakers sliced the margin to 86-73 on a four-point play by Ryan Kelly. Los Angeles got it down to 86-78 on a layup by Robert Sacre with 11:01 to play, but that was as close as the Lakers got. Jefferson scored the Bobcats first eight points of the final quarter to help keep the Lakers at bay. "Hes been doing this to a lot of people," DAntoni said. "We tried a little bit of everything. We dug. We tried to play him a little bit straight up, at first. We tried to double-team him." Jefferson, who signed a three-year, $41 million contract with the Bobcats in July, powered them to a 62-49 halftime lead with 18 points and eight rebounds. Charlotte shot 58 per cent in the half, and never trailed after Jeffersons finger roll gave the Bobcats a 26-25 lead with 1:37 left in the first quarter. In the other meeting this season, the Lakers beat the Bobcats 88-85 at Charlotte with a game-ending 13-4 run and 21 points by Kobe Bryant -- one of only six games the NBAs fourth leading scorer has played in this season because of a torn Achilles tendon and a fracture in his left knee. Jefferson was held to 14 points that night. NOTES: The game ball was being sent to New York to mark the final day of NBA Commissioner David Sterns tenure. WINNIPEG -- It may have taken a couple of games, but Tyler Seguin is showing dangerous chemistry with Jamie Benn. The pair lit up the ice Friday night, combining for three goals and four assists in the Dallas Stars 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets. "I think we get better every day," said Seguin, who had two goals and two assists. "Were becoming good friends off the ice and I think thats only going to translate good things on the ice." The addition of centre Rich Peverly also clicked as he assisted on Seguins first goal. Seguin, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft, came into Friday nights game with only one assist this season in the two games Dallas had played. But the team was well rested after their last home game Saturday and Seguin seemed to respond. Alex Chiasson also scored for Dallas (2-1-0). Blake Wheeler scored Winnipegs only goal. The Jets (2-3-0) have lost three in a row after starting the season 2-0. The Stars havent made the playoffs since 2008, and are hoping to change their fortunes under new coach Lindy Ruff. Theyre looking for some of the magic that got them to the playoffs every season but one in their first 14. They won the Stanley Cup at the end of the 1998-99 season. Benn, named team captain last month, was drafted by the Stars in 2007 and was signed early this year to a five-year $26.25 million contract "Through training camp, pre-season, I feel like every day with practices were getting to know one another and we bring two different games to the table," said Seguin. "It was our first game with Rich Peverly and I thought we jelled pretty well together," added Benn. "We tried to get some shots early and were fortunate enough to get a couple of goals and just kept rolling from there." The Jets did two things theyve been trying to do all season, win the faceoff battle and not get outshot, but still came up short. They won 40 of 64 faceoffs and outshot the Stars 44-31. But playing back-to-back games, they started slower and let Dallas grab a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period. "Were five games in and its still very early and we know what we have in this room," said Jets forward Evander Kane. "I dont think were panicking. Its just frustrating. . . We got a lot of shots at the net tonight but we werent able to get the quality scoring chances." They put on some of their best pressure in the third period, where Wheeler scored his power-play goal, also his first goal of the season. "We can play like that. We just wait till its 4-0," said Kane. Coach Claude Noel said mistakes in the first period ended up in the net. "We cant make those kind of mistakes and expect that our goaltendings going to save us like it has in the previous games," he said. "We should have been smarter and we should have been better in those areas." But there were positives as he juggled lines through the game. "We just played with a lot more vim and vigour if you will. If we had a game like last night again tonight that would really be a big concern of mine because we really were empty last night. We had no emotion in the game." In the first period, Winnipeg finally won the faceoff contest 15-9, a weak spot in their game recently, but were outshot 15-11 and made costly positional errors. The Jets had their best chance to score on a four-minute power play just over five minutes in, when Valeri Nichushkins stick sent Dustin Byfuglien to the Jets dressing room briefly for a cut to his face. But they lost the last minute of the power-play opportunity when Byfugliens partner Toby Enstrom was sent off for hooking. The Stars made good on their minute with an extra man when Seguin set up Chiasson, who stuffed one under Ondrej Pavelecs pads and Seguin slapped in a drop pass from Rich Peverly a few minutes later. Benn finished the scoring in the first by tucking Brendon Dillons rebound behind Pavelecs back at 16:35. Seguin opened the scoring in the second to make it 4-0 when he slapped one into the net from the right faceoff circle, after both Winnipeg and Dallas had failed to connect on power-play chances. Dallas netminder Dan Ellis took late in the second period after starter Kari Lehtonen left with an injury. Wheeler finally beat Ellis at the 5:35 mark of the third when he slipped in a rebound from Byfugliens slapshot on a power play. Despite the time off getting his cut attended to, Byfuglien played a team high 24:41 minutes. Notes: Friday nights game was the fifth in a row where the Jets have scored a power-play goal, including a five-on-three Thursday night in St. Paul. They failed to score on a five-on-three last season and had the worst power-play percentage in the NHL. http://www.maillotfrancefoot.fr/maillot-moussa-sissoko-equipe-de-france.html. Jefferson has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend.EDMONTON -- The core of Canadas national womens soccer team is back where it all began, hoping to rekindle some chemistry as it begin its campaign for the 2015 World Cup. Seven of the Canadian players for Wednesdays match against South Korea in Edmonton were on the Canadian team that ignited the womens soccer program in 2002 when it finished second to the U.S. in the U19 world championship at Commonwealth Stadium. Those seven -- captain Christine Sinclair, keeper Erin McLeod, centrebacks Carmelina Moscato and Rhian Wilkinson, midfielders Diana Matheson and Brittany Timko and forward Kara Lang -- are reconnecting after spending the season playing for various teams around North America. "This game is really kick-starting our campaign to 2015," Moscato said Monday at a news conference to promote the ticket sales for the 2014 FIFA U20 womens world cup that will be played in four Canadian cities. "Although were not looking necessarily two years in advance, right now we do have specific goals. Its centred around connection again. Weve been off for about a month after the NSSL season and we have all worked hard to be back in shape and fit for this game. But it really is about playing soccer together again and reconnecting with our national team goals and identity and wheres were going." The team, while won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, has been in Edmonton for five days preparing for South Korea. While thats not a long time, both Moscato and McLeod said its been a great team-building experience. "Theres elements that are easy because were like a family now," said Moscato, who was off the national team for a few years before rejoining it in 2009. "Meals are always enjoyable, having chatsabut on the field, that winning behaviour, that gold-medal standard behaviour, it takes time to reconnect again.dddddddddddd" McLeod, a native of St. Albert, a bedroom community of Edmonton, said the team is fortunate in that the players have managed to stay connected over the years and the excitement of being together this week is "really bringing us together." Both agree the match with South Korea will be a test of just how together the team is and where it has to go from here to get ready for 2015. "Its going to be challenging," said the 30-year-old McLeod. "In the game there are going to be moments we might be disconnected, but I think thats good to have the test early on to see how much we can fight now, having been apart. And we will only grow from that." The teams are 1-1 in recent matches and McLeod said one of the keys for Canada is to get off to a good start. "We have to come out fighting and bringing the game to them," she said. "A lot of times we start games on our heels and we dont want to be like that this time, or anymore." South Korea is a technically disciplined team that Moscato says is very strong on the counter-attack and dangerous in its ability to regain the ball and sneak behind defences. "So its going to take a lot of defensive discipline for us to regain the ball immediately when we lose it," she said. "So thats a big focus for us because they are quite technically savvy and quite intelligent on the ball." Note: Lang will be with the team as she continues her comeback from two torn knee ligaments, but wont play Wednesday. The New York Yankees addressed a position of glaring need by signing the top free agent catcher. Numbers Game breaks down the Yankees addition of Brian McCann. The Yankees Get: C Brian McCann. McCann, 29, was the top free agent catcher on the market and the Yankees had a gaping hole at the position -- their catchers hitting a Major-League-low 8 home runs with a .587 OPS last season -- so this seems like a suitable fit. McCann has hit at least 20 home runs in seven of the last eight seasons and, since 2006, his 171 home runs leads all catchers. His fWAR of 28.9 since 2006 ranks second among catchers, behind only Joe Mauer. More recently, however, there have been signs of decline, as might be expected since McCann has logged more than 1,000 games behind the plate. For example, McCanns 4.5 fWAR over the last two seasons ranks 16th at the position. Defensively, McCann is below average, with a negative Defensive Runs Saved in each of the last five seasons and a below-average caught stealing percentage in every season of his career save for 2010, when he threw out a career-best 30% of attempted base-stealers. Shoulder woes in recent seasons dont figure to make those numbers any better in the future. A left-handed power hitter, McCann figures to benefit from the short right field fence Yankee Stadium, though hes just 1-for-12 in three career games in the Bronx since the Yankees moved into their new home. He does have a .303 batting average and .902 OPS, with 24 home runs, in 114 career inter-league games, so the switch to the American League shouldnt cause major problems. With McCann leaving, the Atlanta Braves can turn their catching duties over to Evan Gattis, a free-swinging power hitter who forced his way into the lineup with a strong rookie season in 2013. McCann has signed a five-year, $85-millon contract, with a $15-million vesting option for a sixth season. Its significant money, to be sure, but the question will be how well McCann ages. While some decline is to be expected in a deal that will take him through age 34, if McCann is capable of playing 120 games and slugging 20 homers a season, then that will count as a major upgrade behind the plate for the Yankees; the kind of free agent signing that will improve their chances of returning to the postseason. Though the Yankees make noise about getting under Major League Baseballs $189-million lusxury tax limit for 2014, for a team with virtually unlimited resources, like the Yankees, getting to the playoffs really ought to be the bottom line. MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love had just finished carrying his Minnesota Timberwolves over .500 for the first time since Nov. 23, playing the entire second half and over 43 minutes to make it happen. So naturally, he hit the weight room after the game. Without his Bruise Brother Nikola Pekovic by his side for at least another week, Love knows hes going to be tested like he rarely has before. Love had 30 points and 14 rebounds to help the Timberwolves grind out an 88-77 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. "I was a little upset with myself with some of the shots I took that I felt like I couldve made," said Love was of 11 of 26 and 1 for 6 on 3-pointers. "The ball didnt feel great tonight. Thats the way it goes sometimes. If I can do that and we can win without Pek, thats a good sign." Kevin Martin added 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting and six boards for the Timberwolves (23-22) in their first game without Pekovic, who is expected to miss at least a week with bursitis in his right ankle. They still managed to get over .500 after failing in their previous 10 chances to do so. Al-Farouq Aminu had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Pelicans, who were missing star forward Anthony Davis with a dislocated left index finger. They shot 35 per cent and managed a season-low 35 points in the first half to snap a three-game winning streak. Davis was injured in the victory over the Cavaliers on Tuesday night, but coach Monty Williams said he was playing it safe with his franchise player and expected him to return on Saturday against Chicago. "He can knock down the mid-range shot down so a lot of their bigs were in the paint just helping and we had to go up against a big every time," said Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans, who had 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting. "So it was pretty tough." In an ugly game for both teams, the Pelicans managed to hang around and trailed by five heading into the fourth. But Love, who played the entire second half, scored six straight points during an 8-0 burst to oopen the quarter and help the Wolves win for the fifth time in six games.dddddddddddd "With Pek out, we really have to find a way to relieve the pressure off (Love), move him around and stuff," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said. "We know teams are going to come at him. ... So we have to find ways to figure it out." Both teams looked lost without their lynch pins in the paint in the first half. The Pelicans, who also are missing Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson, hovered around 25 per cent shooting for most of the first quarter and were still at 30 per cent late into the third quarter against a Wolves defence that has been among the worst in the league from a field goal percentage basis. Without Pekovic commanding double teams and bulling his way to the basket, the Wolves have had to focus more on the defensive end. That left Love to go to work on the offensive end, and he was more aggressive looking for his shot than he has been with the big fella next to him in the frontcourt. In his first game at home since he was voted in as an All-Star starter for the Western Conference, Love came out firing, taking nine shots and attacking the glass. And when point guard Ricky Rubio went to the bench early in the third quarter with four fouls, Love started distributing more, picking up five assists to help the Wolves push back against the plucky Pelicans. "I know some of our guys are a bit overwhelmed with trying to play at a high level, but we had our chances," New Orleans coach Monty Williams said. "This is when you have to step up and we just didnt do it tonight. That happens." NOTES: Eric Gordon scored 14 on 5 for 17 shooting for New Orleans. ... Before the game started, Love grabbed the mic and thanked the Wolves fans for voting him as a starter in the All-Star game. He posted his NBA-leading 27th game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. ... Greg Stiemsma started in place of Davis and finished with three points and 12 rebounds and has grabbed at least 10 boards in two straight games. Remembering Nigel de Jong seemingly Kung Fu-kicking Xavi Alonso within inches of his life during an ill-tempered 2010 World Cup Final, it is hard to fully rationalize we now stand only a mere six months from the first ball to be kicked in anger at Brazil 2014. On June 12, just as the sun sets on the magnificent historical city of Sao Paulo the inventors, innovators and purveyors of “joga bonitowill” open their campaign. The opponent, Croatia and all its football might and will. As opposites do attract we are set for a corker of an opener. Brazil, though, will go into the 2014 World Cup Finals with the single mindset and firm view to finally remove the only significant un-removable stain on the host nations World Cup Finals legacy. Its been 64 years of tears, pain, anguish and embarrassment for the nation of 200 million. The source of which traces itself back to the 1950 Finals, the only other time Brazil has played host to the grandest and greatest show on mother earth. The scene was The Estadio do Maracana, without a doubt world footballs global shrine and likely the greatest sporting amphitheatre on the planet and the 1950 World Cup Finals. Now lovingly restored for next summers tournament for a cost well in excess of half a billion, Maracana was inaugurated this past spring when England were fortunately invited to attend. A joyous occasion and celebration last June, but that was not the case on July 16, 1950. Close to 175,000 packed in to witness what they thought would be World Cup fame, glory and honour for their beloved football nation. Sadly, Brazil forgot the script, completely botched their lines and went down to the stunning 2-1 defeat against fellow South Americans, Uruguay. Going 1-0 up early in the second half Uruguay hit back and scored the winner with just 11 minutes remaining on the clock. All 173,850 were left open mouthed in shock come the final whistle. Making the defeat all the less palpable was the format. The tournament called for a final group of four to determine the winners. In their previous two final group encounters Brazil had amassed an astonishing 13 goals against Sweden and Spain. A draw would have seen Brazil win its first World Cup and the rather magnificent trophy named after the World Cup Finals founding father, Jules Rimet. Instead, Uruguay were crowned champions for a second time at what was only the fourth Finals in FIFA history, this coming after a 12-year break due to War World II. Englands Dreaming … Or is it a Nightmare? An Englishman may liken that momentous Final to what happened in Germany in 1974 and South Africa in 2010, but the national team were rightfully put in their place. It was a match that still stands as the most significant shock in World Cup Finals history. Make that in all world football history itself. The English had held out from the previous three World Cup Finals afflicted with what could be best described as a decade-plus-long case of extreme snobbery, likely caused by the air of arrogance that in some ways still surrounds. Footballs founding nation, which celebrated its 150th birthday in late October, left London packing some of the most illustrious names ever for Brazil in 1950. They included Matthews, Finney, Nicholson, Milburn and a man who would go on to coach them to 1966 glory, Alf Ramsey himself. Following Joe Gaetjens lone marker late in the first half England trudged off the Belo Horizonte pitch with their heads held shamefully low after a 1-0 loss to the United States. To put into a correct and clear perspective when Pathe News sent the score to Fleet Street London newspapers incorrectly stated England had beaten the US 10-1. Speaking of the Americans… I had the utmost pleasure of speaking with the 1950 US captain Walter Bahr on TSN 690 during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa who, although at the time a spritely 83-years of age, had memories as vivid as if it were just yesterday. Bahr also disclosed in our chat that in the mid 1950s he played his football in Montreal and pointed out that not only was Canadiens goaltending legend Lorne “Gump” Worsley a teammate but that he was an exceptional central defender. High praise indeed from a man who captained America to its greatest-ever football victory, which could only be surpassed by winning a World Cup itself. That will certainly not occur next summer, after the Americans were handed a horrendous draw topped off with a frantic travel schedule. Their schedule is one that even the Rolling Stones - and all those millions they would command - would even baulk at. Drawn in a group along with the 1974 and 2006 hosts (Germany), it is of no relevance what U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati said Friday afternoon. "I guarantee you Jurgen [Klinsmann] knows more about Germany than “Jogi” Low knows about the U.S." Nor does it matter the result of their recent friendly. More important is the fact that the Germans - like the rest of the world - are fully aware of who currently coaches the U.S. team. No one in World Cup Finals history prepares as successfully and efficiently as Deutschland. The Americans will play friendlies like all other Brazil 2014 nations as part of preparations including a showcase one which is scheduled against England in Miami. If the USSF have an ounce of genuine thought and desire about Brazil 2014 any England match should be rain-checked in favour of playing a nation whose football styles are more in keeping with the likes of Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Jet… With the wind in your hair An interesting sidebar to the last time Brazil hosted a World Cup Finals: Only 13 nations could be bothered to show up. Absent despite qualification were India, who were denied a request made to FIFA to play in bare feet. Imagine that, Cristiano. France was another to withdraw due to a requirement to play two of their three group stage games so far apart. The distance between matches would almost cover the entire length of Canada. You will be sure the U.S. will not be happy with their Brazil 2014 group, nor the fact no other nation will rack up the air miles like they have to. Continental Shift? As he rightfully did in Fridays draw Nelson Mandelas rightful and most honourable shadow will loom large over Brazil 2014 from Sugar Loaf Mountain to the beaches of Ipanema and beyond. Not ever before in the previous 19 World Cups to date has an African nation reached even the semifinal stage. Let alone a final. How wondrous it will be if the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria, Cameroon or Ghana can pull off the unprecedented. Get into the Final four and magic often occurs. Come next June I know who I will be cheering most heartedly for. Do you? NEW YORK -- Carlos Gomez and the Milwaukee Brewers have managed a positive climax to their disappointing season. http://www.authenticbillsfanatic.com/c-11-bills-lesean-mccoy-jersey.aspx . Gomez homered and had four hits, including a tiebreaking single in the 10th inning that sent Milwaukee past the New York Mets 4-2 on Saturday for its fourth straight victory. "Long game, but finally we got the W. Thats more important," Gomez said. "Its one of those days like, everything you hit, you have to take it. Tomorrow is the last one and finish hard, get another win." Yuniesky Betancourt drove in two runs for the Brewers (74-87), who have won six of seven and 12 of 17. Milwaukee has taken the first three in a four-game set at Citi Field -- all by the same score -- to give the club five victories in its final seven series. Despite their punchless finish, the Mets are set to retain manager Terry Collins. Three people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that Collins is close to an agreement to return. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been finalized and no announcement had been made. Collins current contract expires after this season, his third in charge of the Mets. The team is expected to announce an extension for Collins at a news conference Monday, the day after the season ends. He is nearing a two-year contract, one of the people said, perhaps with a team option for 2016. "It would be a blast," Collins said. "But again, we will wait til the end of the year to smile about it." Eric Young Jr. singled home the tying run for the Mets in the ninth on an 0-2 pitch from rookie Donovan Hand. David Wright had a chance to win it, but he grounded sharply into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. "I had good at-bats and some bad luck," Wright said. Pinch-hitter Caleb Gindl drew a four-pitch walk from Scott Atchison (3-3) to start the 10th and went to third on Jonathan Lucroys broken-bat single. Gomez followed with a flare to right-centre to put Milwaukee ahead. Betancourt added an RBI single. Hand (1-5) initially tried for a six-out save and instead wound up with his first major league win. With the Brewers resting closer Jim Henderson, Alfredo Figaro got three straight outs for his first career save. "With two games to go in the season and nothing to play for, we still put together a comeback. So I thought that was huge and it really kind of picked me up," Hand said. "Its bittersweet, I guess is the best way to put it for me. Its awesome to have a big league win. You dream of that as a kid, and who wouldnt want a big league win? But its like, you get it the way I did, kind of frustrating." Wright went 0 for 5 and stranded six runners after sitting out Friday night with a sore right thumb. He grounded out ending the seventh, leaving three aboard after New York loaded the bases with no outs. "Those are the things that have haunted us for the last six months," Collins said. Young lined out to centre field and Lucas Duda popped up before Wright came to bat. The Mets, who have managed 13 runs in their last six games, are 2 for 27 (.074) with runners in scoring position during the series. Gomez stole two bases in the second to give him 39 this season. The All-Star centre fielder singled in the eighth before Betancourts bases-loaded sacrifice fly gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead. All-Star shortstop Jean Segura returned to Milwaukees lineup after missing nine games because of a strained right hamstring, but was lifted in the eighth. Segura and Young remained tied for tops in the NL with 44 stolen bases. Brewers prospect Jimmy Nelson allowed one hit over five innings in his first major league start. "It was all right. It wasnt pretty, but I tried to do my best to keep us in there and give us a chance to win," Nelson said. "I didnt throw as many quality pitches as I would have liked." NOTES: The Brewers announced that all of manager Ron Roenickes coaches will return next season. Triple-A Nashville manager Mike Guerrero will join the big league coaching staff as well. Wheeler scored two goals, including the winner, as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Minnesota Wild 6-4 on Friday in a game that featured a seven-goal first period. Wheeler ended a scramble in front of the Minnesota net when he poked the puck under a prone Niklas Backstrom with 9:20 remaining in the third period for his 14th goal of the season, giving the Jets a 5-4 lead. It was the ninth goal in December for Wheeler, who started the season with just five goals in his first 28 games. "I think confidence plays into it," he said of his recent success. "When the puck starts going in the net you find yourself getting into the scoring areas a little bit more. The puck seems to bounce your way a little bit more." Evander Kane, Olli Jokinen, Dustin Byfuglien and Toby Enstrom added goals for Winnipeg. Dany Heatley, Justin Fontaine, Stephane Veilleux and Mikko Koivu were the goal scorers for Minnesota. The Jets (17-18-5), who were coming off a humbling loss in Edmonton on Monday, finally managed to beat the Wild after losing each of the first three meetings between the teams. It was a fourth straight loss for the Wild (20-14-5), who have now dropped six of their last eight games. Neither team seemed interested in playing defence after the three-day Christmas break. The Jets led 4-3 after a first period that saw seven goals scored in the first 7:04, and featured three lead changes. "We dont have the luxury of finding reasons for things not being OK," said Wild coach Mike Yeo, who said the first period was clearly a by-product of the extended break. "Were in a position where we have to make things right." Minnesota struck first when Heatley scored on a wide-open net after a pass from Jason Pominville 2:13 into the game. But the Jets grabbed the lead before the game was six minutes old thanks to a short-handed goal by Kane and a one-timer in the low slot byy Jokinen. http://www.authenticbillsfanatic.com/c-4-bills-jim-kelly-jersey.aspx. "When they scored we responded, which was good to see," Kane said. It only took another 67 seconds for the Wild to go ahead 3-2, on goals by Fontaine and Veilleux. That ended Ondrej Pavelecs outing. The Jets starting goalie smashed his stick en route to the dressing room after allowing three goals on six shots, giving way to backup Al Montoya. Jets coach Claude Noel said the quick hook had more to do with his teams sluggish play in its own zone than anything. "I think our team needed a jolt," he said. Jets captain Andrew Ladd echoed the coach, saying that the team felt sympathy for the lack of support they provided for their goalkeeper. "I thought Monty did a great job once he got in there," Ladd said. "The first three goals, there was nothing Pav couldve done about them, so it was more about trying to get some momentum for our group on the bench." After nearly eight scoreless minutes, the Jets once again claimed the lead on late-period goals from Wheeler and Byfuglien. Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom allowed four goals on 11 first-period shots, and finished with 32 saves on 37 total shots. The lone goal in the second period came on a Wild power play, as a perfect passing sequence ended with an easy goal for Koivu to tie the game at 4-4. That was the only blemish for Montoya, who stopped the other 22 shots he faced. Enstrom added an empty-net goal from 175 feet with four seconds remaining. The Wild won each of the three previous meetings by one goal, including a shootout victory on Nov. 23. Both clubs return to action on Sunday, with the Jets travelling to Denver while the Wild head home to face the New York Islanders. Notes: Zach Parise, dealing with a lower-body injury, missed a second straight game for the Wild. ... The Jets were without defencemen Zach Bogosian (flu) and Mark Stuart, who was a late scratch with a lower-body injury after taking the morning skate. ...
